Auburn city councilors this week will vote to move forward on a plan to repeal the cap on gasoline taxes that it had adopted in 2006.
The council will vote on holding a public hearing on a measure that would restore gasoline taxes to be calculated as a percentage rate on the dollar. Under the existing cap, taxes are calculated at cents-per-gallon rate limited to the first $2 per gallon.
Such a move to eliminate the cap would follow a similar measure adopted by the Cayuga County Legislature.
City staff is recommending the new measure in order to conform with the county rate, as well as create new revenue.
A resolution in front of councilors this week creates a public hearing on the measure at 6 p.m. Feb. 28.
The council meets this Thursday at 5 p.m. at city hall.

Example: I was looking at the State budget. Do you know how much they want to spend on Capital Improvement for the state parks? My guess is in the $100 Million range (I didn't add them up). Since this is "Capital Improvements" I assume it does not have anything to do with normal operating costs. So why spend it if we don't have it? Would you go out and put a $50,000 garage onto your home if you didn't have enough to make the house payments? Maybe we should recall some politicians, it might then open their eyes to reality. "

Voters "think" they make a good decision, but it seems the Auburn City Council are good at messing it all up.
We should start putting all their decisions up for final voter review, basicly let the people vote for any tax increases. The Auburn City Council is notorious for always making things worse!!! What have they done for me lately! NOTHING! "
