City may eliminate gas sales tax cap
Auburn city councilors this week will vote to move forward on a plan to repeal the cap on gasoline taxes that it had adopted in 2006.
The council will vote on holding a public hearing on a measure that would restore gasoline taxes to be calculated as a percentage rate on the dollar. Under the existing cap, taxes are calculated at cents-per-gallon rate limited to the first $2 per gallon.
