Old Timers' benefits AHA
Hildegard Gunnip, bowling in the Women's Division for those aged 70 and older, rolled a 549 no-tap series to take top honors in the 30th annual Old Timers' Tournament Sunday at Starlite Lanes.

In the 60-69 division, Joan Ashby led with 763, while Sharon Mills had 706 to pace the 50-59 division.

The Men's Division leader for those aged 70 and older was Neal Taylor, who shot 786. Roger Jorgenson had a tournament-high 886, including two 300 no-tap games, to win the 60-69 division.

John A. Locastro captured the 50-59 division, firing 862 with a perfect no-tap game.

The event benefits the American Heart Association and drew 34 bowlers, including 23 men and 11 women. Tournament Director Clint Symonds said $320 was raised and will be donated to the AHA.

Symonds, assisted by John D'Urso, thanked the following sponsors who donated door prizes: The Auburn Doubledays, Auburn Family Restaurant, Avon-Tim Bucklin, Burger King, Byrn's Trophy, Cedar House Lanes, Falcon Lanes, Farm Boy Graphics, Jake's Liquor Store, Kinney Drugs, McDonalds, Mr. Pizza, Pearl Lakes Golf Course, Pepper's Liquor Store, P & C, Rainbow Lanes, Starlite Lanes, Bowlers Choice Pro Shop, S & D Pro Shop and Wendy's.

O'Donnell leads in Syracuse

Dennis O'Donnell rolled a 709 series to lead a group of Auburn bowlers who qualified last weekend in the Syracuse Masters at AMF Strike N Spare Lanes in Mattydale.

It took a score of 593 to make the cut. A match-play field of 127 bowlers will square off in the double-elimination tournament starting Saturday at Strike N Spare Lanes. Other Auburn contenders will be: Steve Crozier (621), Dan Guzalak (619), Benny Appleby (611), Paul Roche (603) and Steve Suslik (599).
