As three-fourths of the team celebrated its last regular season home game, the emotions of the night could have caused a loss.
But if there is a theme for the Skaneateles girls basketball team this season, it's being able to overcome obstacles. The Lakers hurdled Fulton 38-28 on Wednesday in the team's Senior Night.
Skaneateles held the Red Raiders to less than 10 points through three quarters before letting them back in the game. The score was a slim 22-20 lead for the Lakers with under four minutes remaining before a handful of seniors started a run that lasted nearly 2:30.
Brittany LaVaute turned a steal into a quick score, Caryn Crary converted a 3-pointer in transition and Staci Dudden grabbed her own rebound and scored to start the Lakers on the winning run in the final minutes of the game.
Five of the six seniors on the eight player team were able to score. Crary led the Lakers with 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Alexis Jones tallied 10 points and six rebounds, Dudden and LaVaute each racked up seven points. Dudden also had six rebounds and three assists and LaVaute nabbed three steals. Sarah Trust put up two points, but had five steals. Kate Driscoll also played well off the bench.
