The Girl Scouts #- Seven Lakes Council is again organizing a tribute to outstanding women in Cayuga County, and invite you to nominate your Woman of Distinction to be honored at a luncheon on April 29 at the Springside Inn.

We are seeking women from business, schools, non-profit organizations and others who live, work or volunteer in Cayuga County.

Women may or may not have been involved in Girl Scouts in the past or currently, but should be women that embody the values of the Girl Scout Mission: Building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

World Thinking Day

Each year on Feb. 22, girls participate in activities, games and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries.

Water is the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts World Thinking day theme for 2008.

This year, girls voted and selected Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Italy and Madagascar to represent the five regions of the world association #-Asia/Pacific, Western Hemisphere, Arab region, Europe and Africa.

World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, but it is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community #- one of 144 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts organizations.

World Thinking Day was first created in 1926 at the fourth Girl Guide/Girl Scout International Conference, held at Girl Scouts of the USA's Camp Edith Macy (now called Edith Macy Conference Center).

Conference attendees decided that there should be a special day when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all around the world think of each other and give thanks and appreciation to their “sister” Girl Scouts.

The delegates chose Feb. 22 as the date for Thinking Day because it was the mutual birthday of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement, and his wife Olave, who served as World Chief Guide.
