The members of Absolute Dance Company love to dance. But this weekend, they are going to dance to love.

On Saturday night, the Auburn-based dance troupe will present “Saltare Amore,” a celebration of love and romance through the art of dance. The show will be part of the dance company's annual fund-raiser, which will also feature a musical performance by Diane Jacobs, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction.
“It is going to be a big night, not just something that will be an hour long,” said Yvonne Hassett, founder and artistic director for Absolute. “The audience will be getting a full show.”
The dance show will be a collection of eight pieces tied together by the theme of love. And much like the universal condition, the show will touch on a range of emotions.
One piece, called “Death by Chocolate,” is a comical romp exploring a woman's love for the decadent dessert. Another, called “Farewell,” is about losing something only to realize its significance long after it is gone.
“The show is going to be a roller coaster,” Hassett said. “The emotions are going to run high. You are going to laugh and you are going to cry.”
Along with its emotional diversity, “Saltare Amore” will also feature various dance styles, from lyrical to contemporary and modern influences, Hassett said. Because Absolute Dance Company performances do not focus on just one style, the dancers are able to become versatile performers, she said.
“One of the biggest compliments I get is that a lot of people do not believe these dancers are high school students,” Hassett said. “Doing diverse pieces like this one enables our kids to do whatever they want, because they have been exposed to all of it.”
Founded in 2002, Absolute Dance Company was created to give young dancers a chance to work in a professional environment. The not-for-profit group works with numerous arts organizations in the region and has performed throughout New York state, Hassett said.
The money raised by Saturday's event will be used by the dance company for future events. As of now, there are plans for a spring concert, as well as the hope of bringing in a professional company for an upcoming show, Hassett said.
To contribute to those funds, those attending will be able to bid on dozens of donated items in a silent auction. Some of the packages include gift certificates to local businesses, vacation weekends at area hotels and art items.
“We have some great stuff. There has been a lot of community support,” Hassett said.
By the end of the night, Hassett said people should have a good grasp on what the dance company has to offer the community. And hopefully, they will leave having been romanced a bit.
“This will kind of showcase who we are and what we stand for,” Hassett said. “And to do it near Valentine's Day, with the love theme, it is a passionate thing for us.”
