The recent die-off across New England including New York of particularly vulnerable bats is cause for grave concern. Researchers are scrambling to pinpoint the exact cause of what has been dubbed, “White Nose Syndrome,” which has devastated localized populations currently hibernating.

The miserable reality of West Nile mosquito countermeasures legitimately deployed and otherwise demands careful scrutiny before the new season and renewed efforts.
