The National Weather Service is maintaining a flood watch for southern Cayuga County, and it has issued a winter weather advisory for the entire county.
The flood watch is in effect through Thursday morning, and forecasters now believe a cold front will change rain into sleet and snow as the day goes on. There could be low ice accumulations, followed by roughly one to three inches of snow into Thursday morning.
The combination of snow over ice, NWS said, could create slippery conditions.
The winter weather advisory is in effect through 1 a.m. Thursday for southern Cayuga County. For the northern half of the county, the advisory is in effect through 4 a.m. Thursday.
A mix of rain, sleet, snow and freezing rain is expected to develop Wednesday afternoon as temperatures begin to drop.
