HIT: To the New York Giants' stunning victory in this year's Super Bowl.
It's wonderful to see the NFL's top prize returning to New York (though it's true that the Giants play in New Jersey) after nearly two decades.
And even if you're not a Giants fan, it was an amazing game to view. Most years, the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl is about as interesting as sawdust. This year, you could not ask for any more suspense.
While Patriots fans are surely disappointed that their team did not make history by completing a perfect season, they can take pride in what still goes down as a remarkable season.
MISS: To the reported beating and robbery of a man in Auburn early Thursday morning.
Auburn police have arrested four men in their 20s in connection with the crime, which apparently stemmed from a dispute at a local bar.
We've seen far too many reports of violent crime in recent weeks, and many of them involve young people.
HIT: To the community fundraiser to benefit the John Howland scholarship fund held Sunday at the Union Springs High School cafeteria.
The strong turnout should not come as a surprise, given the generous spirit of the community and the high regard people had for Howland, who lost his life to cancer last year.
For more about Howland and the scholarship, check out www.johnhowlandfund.org.
HIT: To the recent strong play of the Syracuse University men's basketball team, which over the weekend earned its third consecutive victory.
Given that this team has lost several players to injuries, suspension or other reasons this season, it's a testament to the talent that remains that this team is doing this well.
There's a lot of basketball left to play, but SU sure is showing plenty of potential.
