Obama as president would be as good as Kennedy was

Monday, February 4, 2008 12:02 PM EST

I, like Senator Edward Kennedy, am appalled at the campaign tactics that have been used by Bill and Hillary Clinton. Examples include Bill's reference to Jesse Jackson's campaign victories in South Carolina during the '80s, which suggested that Senator Obama's success would be based on his ethnicity.
And, Hillary accused Senator Obama of having close ties to accused criminal Tony Rezko without mentioning that Rezko had ties with the Clintons. I could go on, but this paper doesn't have enough room.

The people of South Carolina proved that voters will not put up with such nonsense. I do believe that Bill and Hillary learned that such tactics will backfire on them if they continue to be employed.

As a voter, what really turns me off is when a politician resorts to any and all methods to win office. The end never justifies the means!

What does turn me on is when a candidate tells us what he/she can do for our country. I am impressed with a number of Senator Obama's proposals, including his timetable for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. If approved, 1-2 combat brigades would be removed each month, and all combat brigades would be out of Iraq within 16 months.

Senator Obama is opposed to raising the retirement age and the privatization of Social Security.

He supports the elimination of all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year.

He supports increased funding of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Senator Obama will encourage the government to negotiate lower drug prices for Medicare and supports allowing seniors to import safe prescription drugs.

The New York Democratic primary is coming up on Feb. 5, and I would encourage those who are eligible to participate to do so. But vote smart! Vote for someone who believes in honest campaigns, someone who does not resort to doing anything and everything to win.

Vote for Senator Obama not because he is African-American, but because of his stand on the issues and the hope he inspires in this county, as did President Kennedy!

I am proud to support Senator Barack Obama.

" As an active political participant, I must agree with the author about the underhanded tactics of the Clinton's, or the "Clinton Machine", when it comes to the difference in campaign tactics being currently employed. Many of us who have been long time critics of BOTH Clintons knew this would come to pass. They can't stand the thought of losing, but worse than that, they're truly capable of anything. The Citizen doesn't have enough paper to write a list of "unsavory" donors, advisors, and people of influence employed by the Clinton's. As a Conservative, I must say that whether you support Obama or Clinton, you must recognize and embrace the FACT that you want more government services, more taxes, and more government involvement in your everyday lives. I can't stand the thought of some bureaucrat making my healthcare decisions, telling me where to send my kids to school, even if the school is failing, but most of all, we have to remember our country's founding. We can't continue to forget that we are a county forged from the desire to escape the rule of tyrrants, and oppressive taxes. Neither of the candidates have given us an idea of how they'll fund their massive social reengineering philosophy, except to say that they'll roll back the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy. Nearly every reader of this paper has benefitted from these "rich person" benefits. The per child tax credits, the enhancements of EIC are all part of these "benefits for the super rich"

I don't know who quoted it, but "If you're young and you're not a liberal, you were born without a heart. As you get older, if you don't become more conservative, you were born without a brain."
