AUBURN -- The Auburn Enlarged City School District Long Range Planning Committee got specific on Monday.
For weeks, the board of education committee has floated $14.9 million as the estimated cost of its proposed capital project, of which $3.5 million would be earmarked for renovations at Holland Stadium, including concrete work, lighting, the installation of synthetic turf, enhancing the walking track and additional parking.

During a committee worksession Monday, Bernard P. Donegan, a financial manager with whom the school district contracts, unveiled specific numbers, including the true estimated cost as well as taxpayer contribution.

The overall cost of the capital project slated for the 2009-10 school year, Donegan said, is an all-inclusive $15,680,000, an estimated figure that takes into account interest, state aid, taxpayer contribution and any variables that may incur between now and then.

Donegan said he used conservative numbers in calculating facets of the project, such as interest rates and state aid, as a way to prevent a situation in which the district sees the project costing more than expected and taxpayers getting a spike in taxes.

Currently, the project is 87.6 percent aidable.

" Hillbilly: On average, individual taxpayers will pay about a dollar per month for the massive improvements detailed in this project. Slightly less if they're elderly and poor, slightly more if they own a high-assessment home. This is the way it should be. "

" I am sure everybody watched the Superbowl. Did you notice they were playing on grass?. These players are professionals yet they play on grass not turf. "

" Taxes are high because people keep voting YES on the budgets. For once vote NO and see how resourceful our board(s)can be. "

" 87.6% state aid spread out over the life of the loan, (15 years)

This whole project is nothing but placing an additional burden on people who have been taxed to death.

If the district refuses to separate the turf, and the press box and the concession stand, and the parking lot, and the 100 pa system from what is truly needed, then I firmly believe the whole proposal needs to voted down, to make the district bring it back to the drawing table.

Vote NO! "

" Parents, pretend taxes are drugs and for any future school tax increases just say no. Show your kids how to just say no. Besides this is the only tax increase you can actually stop. By the way what is the "taxpayer contribution" for this project? You didn't say. "

" Pabis and his three stooges need to rethink their Holland Stadium fiasco. The community was already heard on this turf item. Giangreco, Andre and Lansford need to stay focused on their school board function. It is not to generate prospective income for the city. They would be better suited finding ways to keep taxes down, insuring Pabis lives within the school budget, finds ways to improve state scores and minimize the high school drop out rate. And wanting your kids to play turf is definately a poor reason to run for the school board! "

" The tax toll grows higher from 14.9 million to 15.7 million! I am sure the Board is deeply sorry for this million dollar error in costs-- When the school board reaches 100 percent aidable then they should bring it to a vote! "
