HIT: To the fifth anniversary of the Auburn Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court. The program has a record of successfully treating people that keeps them out of jail and straightens out their lives, avoiding future trouble.
More than 100 graduates attest to the program's ability to change lives.
MISS: To the demise of the annual Hall of Fame Game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown. The modern-day realities of baseball have brought an end to this splendid exhibition that gave local fans a chance to see major leaguers without having to go to a major league stadium.
Cooperstown will take an economic hit, as the contest always sold out and brought thousands to the village. It is a shame that seven decades of tradition was tossed away.
Simply put, most major leaguers don't like giving up a day off to come to Cooperstown to play in a game that doesn't mean anything.
That's too bad, because, for most of them, it's the closest they'll ever come to getting into the hallowed Hall.
HIT: To “From Plate to Print,” a new exhibit opening Saturday at the Cayuga Museum. Prints of photographs dating back more than 100 years will give present-day citizens an idea of what life was like at the turn of the 19th century.
It's a great chance to see slices of the life in Auburn and Cayuga County that our ancestors lived in.
MISS: To a small oil spill that made its way into the Owasco River. The spill took place on Friday and authorities weren't notified until Tuesday morning. The Auburn Fire Department was able to clean up most of the oil that was washed into the river by rainwater.
Owasco Lake isn't in the best shape either, and oil in the river doesn't help matters.

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that The Freeman's Journal is sponsoring:
"Save Hall of Fame Game"
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savehofgame/
The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday, Jan. 29, that Major League Baseball has unilaterally cancelled The Hall of Fame, a revered 70-year tradition.
Please help the Cooperstown sports' community in petitioning MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to change his mind.
And, please, forward the petition to anyone you know who may be sympathetic to the cause.
Best regards,
Jim Kevlin
