An ice storm warning for the southern half of Cayuga County, and a winter storm warning for the northern half remain in effect through Friday afternoon.
As of noon, local law enforcement reported no major problems associated the weather, though the potential for ice buildup still exists.
In both halfs of the county and throughout the region, the NWS is warning that up to a half inch of ice accumulation could develop Friday, a situation that could bring down trees and powerlines. Driving conditions could become dangerous or even impossible, the NWS said.
The storm is starting out as a mix of freezing rain and sleet and will eventually turn to freezing rain.
Temperatures should rise laters the afternoon, allowing conditions to improve at that point.
With the warnings, NWS said, residents should prepare for power outages.
