The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office reported the teenager who escaped corrections officers Wednesday afternoon was been taken back into custody later that day.
Xavier J. Alford, 15, was found by state police in Syracuse, as a result of tips received by the sheriff's office.
According to the sheriff's office, Alford fled on foot around 12:20 p.m. after a family court appearance at the county courthouse on Genesee Street in Auburn. Alford was being transported back to a juvenile detention facility at the time of the escape, sheriff's officials said. The escape did not involve any struggle, and no corrections officers were injured before Alford ran off, Sheriff David Gould said.
Gould said that the office can't release any information about the nature of Alford's court appearance or criminal history because of his age.
To aid in the search, the sheriff's office conducted pre-recorded calls from the county 911 center to residents on the west side of Auburn. The calls were made using a system which makes reverse-911 calls to get emergency information to the public.
