Why isn't more being made out of the fact that the greatest chess player in the history of the world, Bobby Fischer, just recently died at the same time, almost exactly, as, without question, unarguably, the greatest poker player and the greatest sports bettor in the history of the world, David "Chip" Reese.
When gas is $3.21 in Marcellus and $3.24 in Lansing, why is it $3.29 in Auburn?
A Christ-like person works and contributes to this society, instead of milking the system, which takes money and resources away from those that really need it.
I see it didn't take Mayor Quill and his posse long to start giving our money away.
I see the use of the Two Cents line has really gone downhill. What a shame that it isn't put to better use.
Two Cents will be updated online as new submissions are called or e-mailed. To contribute new Two Cents items, please call 253-5311 ext. 292 or e-mail twocents@lee.net.

1. Christ was poor, look at the other side of the coin. [Which you'd expect would lead to a discussion of rich people, but instead, we non sequitur to...]
2. A criminal is going to jail or is up for parole and says he accepts Jesus in his heart. He asks for forgiveness. [Are you saying those persons ARE milking the system (though it sounds more like they are trying to milk human kindness and/or gullibility, not The System}, or are you saying other people say that but you don't? But instead of a discussion criminals who claim to take Christ into their hearts, we next leap to...]
3. "Roots of past generations" [sounds like a commentary on the "criminal class" -- but it's just sort of stuck in there not attached to any other thought. ]
4. People who can't take care of themselves for health reasons. [I am guessing the poster means some people on Social Security Disability, though what that has to do with poverty, Christ or criminals, I don't know. OK, what about them?]
5. "but go to church, praise the lord?" [The disabled people go to church? Or people who support them go to church and don't care about the disabled persons? Is there a problem with one of these? Or -- huh?]
6. The poster asks if someone is saying there are 2 different meanings of "Christ-like." But whom is the poster asking? The original Two Cents poster, or all the rest of us? It seems pretty clear from our discussion that we all think there are many interpretations of Christ and Christ-like.
Even picking it apart bit by bit, I can't make heads or tails of this post.
I can't tell if these sort-of sentences are meant to be serious or sarcastic; in fact, I can't follow the reasoning or even the meaning.
I get busted for my long posts, but at least I can usually get my ideas across. This is really sad. This poster has something to say, and has taken the time to put forward thoughts and opinions, but somehow missed the boat when it came to learning how to communicate thoughts to others.
Whew.
I don't mean to be snotty, really, but, man, I tried but I do not understand a word of that previous post. "

John ("I'll stay in Iraq for 100 years!"") McCain and Mitt "flip-flop" Romney now desperately resorting to the silly tactic of trying to label and tag the other as a "Liberal", as if that sheer appellation could somehow magically win them votes!
Funny yes?
But you know what's even scarier? That it just MIGHT work, given the obsessive preoccupation with the term by "dittoheads" and O'Reilly/Hannity/Hume freaks and their tendency to react in Pavlovian fashion to the mere mention of the word!
Jeez, what SHEEP! "

We seem to think OTHERS are covering our backs-but that is so not true-
I also think we are not teaching our children to pay attention to their future when it comes to politics! What we vote on now does affect them in 10/15/20 years. "

I was born in the wrong era because I have always been an isolationist at heart. Really, we have no business sending our money abroad if we haven't first taken care of our own people at home.
We don't actually have any of those billions "to spare" -- it's all deficit. And we'd have buckets more money for our own people if we just stopped wasting it on an unwinnable war, first blowing up cities, then rebuiilding the very ones we just blew up -- all on our dime. "

How 'bout that, people? ME! Who'da thunk it?
I'm leaving right now to go stand at the top of the mound in Fort Hill cemetery and scream at the top of my lungs "I AM A CHRIST-LIKE PERSON!"!! so don't anyone call the fuzz....=) "

NAAAHHHHHT! (NOT!)
Puhleeeze! The guy had an opportunity to make a million bucks playing a chess game and the State Department wanted him to defer to political boolship and stay home singing patriotic songs, for crying out loud -- I'd have done the SAME THING! "

Christ-like person statement- Dumb! We are all Christ-like and we all need help. And since the SYSTEM is government run and Christ is religion they don't mix. To stop the "give away" we have to stop raising taxes and fee's and weed out the milkers.
The price of gas in Tupper Lake, NY last week was $3.35 (Low end) So what are you complaining about????
Bobby Fischer and David "Chip" Reese both dead. And this effects my life how?? "

I have to disagree on the use of Two Cents. We used to have a lot more sniping at each other and stupid comments. While that has not died out completely, there are now long-ranging coversations, discussions and disputes on serious news issues, local, national, international and philosophical. Personally, I think the space is maturing well (though I still think it was a step backwards to remove the print version). "
