Last Saturday, The Citizen reported the diocese is closing 13 Catholic schools.
These schools will be missed as I suspect their purpose was to provide strong Christian values, in the Catholic tradition, and a foundation of academic excellence which would serve our society well in the future.
This is sad news.
I also noticed a bright spot reported the same day in The Citizen regarding the students of the Tyburn Academy of the Immaculate Conception High School.
This is wonderful to see the kids active and caring about Christian values.
I suspect many of these students will go on to some of our great Catholic or Christian-based universities and serve society with Christian values in the future.
My understanding is Tyburn Academy of the Immaculate Conception does not require or receive financial support from the diocese so they are not part of the burden, yet we receive the desired results that most of us Catholics hope for.
This is the best of all worlds and very impressive to me. It also seems to demonstrate that many believe in the value of a Christian education for our community and society and are willing to provide enough independent financial support to obtain it.
This is so impressive and the fact that this is a high school means these students are that much closer to heading out to our universities or out into the world well prepared with Christian values.
I am sure that the bishop and others in Rochester must be extremely pleased with Tyburn Academy for being able to provide a high school, in the Catholic tradition, here in Auburn.
This current sad news reminds me that we all should all be very proud of our accomplishments with Tyburn.
Having a second high school in Auburn also provides for a tiny bit of competition in education, which is always good.
I hope and trust that all our local churches make our parishioners fully aware that we have this wonderful choice here in Auburn.
Parents are also stepping up and realizing that Tyburn provides an education of the “whole person” and this approach is a constant part of their curriculum.
