Hydraulic fluid reaches river

Hazmat specialists are working to contain spilled hydraulic fluid that reached the Owasco River in the city of Auburn on Tuesday morning.
A hydraulic line broke on a forklift at a marina near Fleming Street, and rainwater carried the fluid into the outlet. Crews have set up containment devices to abosorb the material downstream of the original spill.

Water filtration officials said because the water they draw comes from the lake, there should be no problems with the public water supply.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is assessing the situation, as well.
