COOPERSTOWN -- The Baseball Hall of Fame Game, an annual tradition in this quaint village for more than six decades, will end after this year's contest between the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres.
Hall of Fame officials say Major League Baseball decided keeping the game was too difficult because of the complexities of the major league schedule and "all its inherent challenges."

The first Hall of Fame Game was in 1940 and it was the last surviving in-season exhibition game on the major league schedule.

This year's game is slated for Monday, June 16.

" Wow, that is sad. I'll bet it has something to do with the player's unions. Damn unions that's one entity that should be abolished. So much for tourism in Cooperstown. This move will seriously hamper the financial climate for many businesses both in Cooperstown and the area. I remember we use to go every year with our children when they were growing up. The game, Herkimer Diamond Mines, Howe Caverns...we always made it a family vacation. "

" How sad! I met my now-ex in Cooperstown the year Detroit played in the exhibition game then went on to win the World Series (1984). We lived just down the street.... "
