I think it's about time the city taxpayers get to go to the dump without paying anything. The dump belongs to the taxpayers, not five people who think they can do whatever they feel like doing.
I hope Mr. Quill isn't allowed to vote on the fire department contract. I'd say there is a conflict of interest.
I think the school board is a good example what happens when you don't get a good education because they don't seem to understand the English language. What part of "no turf" don't they understand?
The "Two Cents" column should reappear in the "Weekly" Citizen. It makes your paper different from the competition.
In the end, when the smoke clears, I'm afraid it will be Bill Fitzpatrick against Matt Driscoll for James Walsh's seat. I make them both strong favorites to run for the job.
Two Cents will be updated online as new submissions are called or e-mailed. To contribute new Two Cents items, please call 253-5311 ext. 292 or e-mail twocents@lee.net.

When I first lived here, one only had to pay once for a dump sticker (if you got a new car, you had to buy a new sticker). The fee was really low -- a couple bucks or maybe it was less -- to pay for the sticker and staff time.
Some time in the early 90s, I think it was, we had to pay something like $50 a year for the sticker. That was a big deal, but people got used to it.
Then sometime more recently, it switched to the per-bag payment method -- $2 a bag, has to be clear plastic, and isn't supposed to weigh more than 30 pounds a bag.
I think this is pretty much in line with most of the communities out here, except the Town of Venice, which has no dump and people there have to fudge to find ways to get rid of their trash.
Whether it is officially legal or not, almost everyone out here burns their burnable trash, and except right in the towns, people compost or chuck their biodegradable trash.
Recyclables are accepted free at the dump, but you are supposed to clean them out first (a lot of people don't, but they should, because they make the recyclable dumpster really nasty).
What I don't understand is why the recyclables are not separated (except paper -- which has to be stacked and bound in twine). Do they actually ever recycle that stuff or what? If much of it isn't clean, and it hasn't been separated -- just what are they doing with it? "

I go to the dump all the time and I've never been charged a cent. Does anyone know when this went into effect? I was just there a couple of days ago to eat lunch and take in some of the scents and scenery and nobody ever said that I had to pay anything.
To be honest, I don't know what I would do if they began charging me to park there for a 1/2 hour while I listen to the oldies and eat lunch.

Yes The Dump, pun included, does belong to us not the 5 people. We should have 12 coupons for once a month "Free" visits. What is so hard about doing that?

Since we have the 3 allowed dumps free, we try to use them to the fullest! "
