I am writing in regard to the article printed in the Jan. 16 edition of The Citizen about Wake Robin Farm organic products. The article stated that the farm produces “yogurt and milk free of antibiotics and pesticides.”
I feel this leads the reader to believe that non-organic milk may contain antibiotics or pesticides. Nothing could be further from the truth. All milk marketed in New York through licensed milk plants is thoroughly tested and free of all harmful contaminants. There are many individuals who are allergic to antibiotics. Any antibiotics in milk would be catastrophic to them and, consequently, would harm the entire dairy industry.
While I am not trying to discredit the organic industry, I feel the public should not be misled by statements confusing to the consumer. After all, farmers are in this business to sell good, wholesome milk. We want the consumer to feel confident that any milk purchased will be of the best quality.
