Lakers win own wrestling tourney

Skaneateles was perfect on its own mats on Saturday, going 5-0 in the Skaneateles Dual Meet Tournament, while Auburn took fourth with a record of 2-3.
The Lakers' 160-pound wrestler Kyle Sears earned Most Outstanding Wrestler for the team and Luke Netti (112) won it for the Maroons by going 5-0 on the day.

The Lakers' closest match came in their final meet with then-4-0 Chittenango. The Lakers won 33-28 to win the tournament.

Sears went 5-0 on the day and won by pin in 1:20 against Marcus Whitman.

Other results for the Lakers were Steve Goetzmann (112, who went 3-2. Troy Green (103) went 4-0, Chad Gray (119)went 4-1, Jacob Valentino (125) went 4-1 and win a 17-9 decision over Marcis Worboys of Marcus Whitman.

Jacob Carvalho (130) went 4-1 and earned a pin in 35 seconds over Marcus Whitman's James Peterson. Chris Wise (135) went 2-3, Nathan Hunt (140) went 3-2, Thane Green (152) went 4-1, Jordan Bean (171) went 3-2, George Dobrovsky (189) went 5-0 including one match wrestled at 215.

For Auburn, Dave Rescott (103), Joe Giacona (112), Mike Henn (145), Justin Gilmore (152) took two wins each.

Ken Currier (130) and Shane Woodman (160) each had four wins. Winning three matches were PJ Giacona (125) and Pat Day (215).

Cody Laxton (171) and Ian Merritt (189)each earned a win for the Maroons.

Auburn (11-10) hosts Baldwinsville for the team's Senior Night on Wednesday.

HOCKEY

Skaneateles 7, Burnt Hills 1

Captain Keith Buehler led the Lakers with two goals and one assist.

Co-captain Tory Cole helped out with one goal, while Sean Morley also put in a score.

Also adding goals for the Lakers were Jacob Bird, Drake Hill and Anthony Navaroli. Matt Wood, Dylan VanHoltz, Erik Stevens, Noah Allen, Kaj Beck-Anderson, Ryan Callahan, Patrick Emmer and Josh Rathgeb all added an assist.

Alex Richichi had 12 saves for the Lakers.

VOLLEYBALL

Lafayette 3, Weedsport 0

Heidi Robinson led the Warriors with two digs, one ace, one kill, six assists and two blocks as they fell 25-16, 25-16 and 25-16 to the undefeated Lancers.

Chelsea Paquette had two digs, one kill and two assists, Anna Wilson helped out with one dig, one kill and six assists, Murphey Enos had four digs, one ace and a team high of eight kills and Erin Myers finished with four digs.

Weedsport (11-4 overall, 9-2 league) host Bishop Grimes Monday.

Port Byron 3, Manlius Pebble Hill 0

Ashley Leja led the Panthers with six aces, four kills and three digs in a meet on Friday. Courtney Christina had two digs and Ryann Mirabito had two aces. Brittney Bigness finished with four aces, one kill, two digs and a team high of nine assists.

Kara Pitcher had three aces, two kills, two blocks, two digs and one assist. Brook Hamm had five aces, three kills and five digs and Britt Timms finished with two digs.

Port Byron (9-7) travels to Pulaski Monday.

SWIMMING

Weedsport 109, Dryden 75

The Warriors were 3-5 heading into the meet on Friday with Dryden, who was 7-2.

Nathan Earl, Sean Wignall, Matt Crowley and Luke Baker guided the Warriors to first in the 200 medley relay (1:47.41).

Mike Reese (2:02.28) finished in first in the 200 freestyle and Justin Spencer (2:02.76) came in right behind him.

Reese also took first in the 500 freestyle (5:35.78) and part of second place with Adam Rude, Kyle Friesen and Logan Thompson in the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.94).

Earl (2:15.15) earned the Warriors first place in the 200 individual medley and Matt Crowley took second (2:18.98).

Baker took second in the 50 freestyle (23.82). Kate Scarbrough finished in first in diving (198.00). Crowley (59.89) placed in first in the 100 butterfly.

Spencer, Wignall, Quenton Grutzik and Baker earned first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.05). Earl (1:00.70) and Silcox (1:08.20) placed first and second in the 100 backstroke. Wignall finished second in the 100 breast stroke (1:08.70).
