HIT: To students in the Union Springs Central School District for their creativity.
A group of students showed their business ingenuity by competing in a contest inspired by the TV show “American Inventor” in a business class at the high school. Haeja Kessler and Danielle Lyndaker took first for their idea of a video yearbook.
Some other Union Springs students competed to create a logo for a pizzeria in the village. Dylan Willis took the honors with his creation.
It's great to see students show their creative sides and to be recognized for it.
MISS: To a pair of separate child pornography arrests in Cayuga County. Last week, a 32-year-old Auburn man was charged with possession of child pornography.
On Tuesday, police charged him with the abuse of a 7-year-old.
On Wednesday, police announced the arrests of a 58-year-old man from Auburn and a 60-year-old man from Sennett as part of a sting involving authorities in New York and Kansas. The Sennett man also faces child pornography distribution charges.
As much as a boon as the Internet has become, it also has created an easier way to distribute child pornography.
The fact that cases like this are happening locally is alarming.
HIT: To former Syracuse University football coach Paul Pasqualoni becoming the Miami Dolphins' new defensive coordinator.
Many local fans were thrilled when SU athletic director Daryl Gross fired Coach P. after the 2004 season after 14 years, but with some distance, his record of only one losing season and a 6-3 bowl record look good compared to the most recent three seasons on the Hill.
Pasqualoni took an opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys as an assistant coach and used it to earn a coaching position paying good money in an area where the only ice he'll see is in a glass.
