The Auburn boys basketball team put forth arguably its best effort of the season against Liverpool on Friday, coming from behind late in the game to take the 57-53 non-league win.
The Maroons were down seven points with 2:40 left in regulation.
“We came out and pressured them, forcing turnovers,” Auburn coach Al Giannone said. “We were able to convert on those, tuning them into points and allowing us to walk out with the win.”
Damien Whitaker and Manny Brooks made some key shots down the stretch, while Jimmy Pitts came down with some big rebounds that kept the win out of the Warriors' reach. Dave Foltz also chipped in with six rebounds.
Whitaker led the team with 25 points, 10 boards and seven assists, while Pitts also chalked up a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Malcolm Bryan tallied 11 points and nine rebounds.
Auburn (12-4 overall, 6-3 league) is tied with Nottingham for first place in the league and hosts Ithaca on Tuesday.
Pulaski 59, Port Byron 48
Frank Smart led the Panthers with 17 points.
Brad Anderson helped out with 16 points and Zack Kudla had six points.
Weedsport 74, Tyburn Academy 17
Oliver Jordan led the Warriors with 17 points.
Spencer Blackman led the Crusaders with 10 points.
Weedsport (10-6) travels to Pulaski Wednesday.
Syracuse Academy of Science 69, Cato-Meridian 59
A.J. Rothenburg led the Blue Devils with 19 points and Cody Humberstone had 14 points.
“It's been a downslide for us lately.” Blue Devils coach Ryan Brunelle said. “Hopefully we can turn things around Monday. S.A.S has got a lot better since the first meeting we had with them.”
Cato-Meridian (6-8) hosts Tully on Monday.

Moravia 51, Southern Cayuga 45
Ashley Shea and Deanna Drake each scored 13 points to lead the Blue Devils. Claire Hunsinger had 12 points and a team high of 10 rebounds.
Lianna May led the Chiefs with 21 points.
Moravia (8-8 overall, 6-1 league) travel to Newfield Tuesday.
SWIMMING
Auburn 83, Oswego 73
Even by swimming exhibition in the final two events, the Maroons were able to defeat the Bucs.
Pat O'Donovan, Ed Moll, Greg Leader and Greg Rifanburg won the initial event, the 200 medley relay (2:02.47). O'Donovan also won the 200 freestyle (1:54.34) and led off the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:34.60), with Lucas Zelehowsky, Adam Zelehowsky and Preston Chaffee.
Most swimmers went outside their normal events in the meet. Sawran (2:22.05) and Tehan (2:22.17) took first and second, respectively, in the 200 individual medley. Sawran also won the 100 butterfly. Lucas Zelehowsky came in first in the 100 freestyle (50.43) and Rifanburg won the 500 freestyle (5:45.53). Sean McNamara earned first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.75).
The only event that the Maroons didn't score first in was the 50 freestyle, when Chaffee, normally a distance swimmer, came in second (23.93), behind the Buccaneers' Drake Becksied (23.49).
Auburn (7-0) hosts West Genesee on Friday in the Maroons senior meet.

Bobby Gage scored the first goal for the Maroons with an assist from Sean Hogan.
Hogan and Brad Murdoch assisted on Brendan Lewis' goal. Andrew Chadderdon scored one goal and two assists. Matt Festa had two goals, and one assist. Kevin Festa recorded an assist and a goal and Nick Herlihy had one assist.
Chris Clifford finished with two assists. Tommy Trowell had 39 saves for the Maroons.

The Lakers jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead heading into the second period, with goals scored by Kyle Christine and Keith Buehler.
