An 18-year-old Cato man died Saturday morning in a head-on collision on Route 370 in Cato.
State Police in Auburn said Andrew Mapley, 18, was westbound at about 7:20 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle crossed over into the eastbound lane, where it crashed into a pickup truck coming the other way.
Mapley was later pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The other driver, Stephen Gigliotti, 43, of Wolcott, was taken to University Hospital in Syracuse with a broken foot and a cut to his head, police said. Gigliotti's two teenage passengers were also taken to University Hospital, and were both treated and released.
Saturday's crash is the second tragedy to hit the family in recent years.
Five years ago this month, Andrew Mapley's brother, Cody, 16, was killed in an accident in Cato involving two snowmobiles. Andrew, who was 13 at the time, had been aboard one of the machines at the time of that accident.
