“Catholic Schools Light the Way” will be the theme of this year's Catholic School's Week to be held from Jan. 27 through Feb. 1. Beginning Sunday, Jan. 27, students from St. Joseph's School at 89 E. Genesee St. will start off the week by participating in Mass at their respective parishes through lectoring, ushering, being altar servers and bringing up the gifts.
There are also many events scheduled throughout the week for all grades including Special Person's Day, Middle School Coffee Hour, a Kindergarten beach party, designing Valentine's Day cards for a nursing home, writing thank you letters to our priests and nuns, a jump rope demonstration, reading with partners, poetry recitations, family bingo and a box-snack gathering. Guest speaker Jennifer Haines will speak to the middle school students about William Seward.

Also, the Scholastic Book Fair will be open for students and their guests to visit during the week.

On Wednesday, Jan. 30, the school will hold an open house for new students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you, or someone you know, is considering St. Joseph's School for your children, please come for a visit or call the school at 253-8327 for more information.

On Thursday, Jan. 31, the kindergarten class will be having a beach party as a culminating activity for its science unit on the ocean.

They will be having stations in their classroom that will reflect different beach activities.

They will be decorating whale cookies, dancing the limbo, fishing in the fish pond, creating sand art and playing pin the fin on the whale.

They will be dressing in summer clothes, sitting on beach towels and participating in all the fun beach activities.

St. Joseph's School is also inviting the entire community to a fun evening in the month of March to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

They are bringing international Irish singing sensation Andy Cooney's Forever Irish Concert from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, to East Middle School, just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

Tickets for the concert, which benefits the school, are $22 each, all general admission, and are available by calling the school at 253-8327, Cheryl at 253-3174 or Karen at 253-0488. If you have never heard his music, it is wonderful. We went last year and will be going again. He has authentic Irish music, Irish dancers and an Irish comedian that will make you laugh until your sides hurt.

Special thanks goes out to Cheryl Foster and Karen Mahoney for their hard work in bringing this event to Auburn. What a wonderful way to support St. Joseph's School.

Also coming in March, the St. Joseph's School's eighth grade will be holding a tag sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29. Gently used items are now being accepted. Please, no clothing or stuffed animals. The donations may be dropped off during school hours. All proceeds will go towards the eighth grade trip to Philadelphia. For more information, call the school at 253-8327.
