‘Fish Face' a youngster's treat

In a story about childhood and growing up, what could be more appropriate than the title “Fish Face?” Even as an adult, the delight and silliness of contorting your facial expressions are bound to make you smile, much like experiencing the play of the same name, in which you will take a journey through the eyes of elementary school student Emily Arrow, who is faced with issues such as honesty and being one's self.
Arrow is one of the many characters created out of the mind of Newbery Honor-winning author Patricia Reilly Giff.

“Fish Face” was adapted by ArtsPower National Touring Theatre into a musical, written and directed by artistic director Greg Gunning and composed by Richard DeRosa.

ArtsPower is known for “encouraging young people to connect with their family, peers and others, giving them a sense of belonging, and igniting their desire to read,” according to Kevin Schoonover, executive director at the Smith Opera House.

Schoonover said he encourages grandparents or parents who don't have to work to experience the show with their children, as it is a “great bonding opportunity.”
