U.S. Rep. Jim Walsh on Thursday announced that he will not seek an 11th term in the U.S. Congress, culminating more than 30 years of public service, including 20 years in the House of Representatives.
"To the people of Central and Western New York, I thank you for putting your faith in me over and over again," Walsh said in a news release. "It has been an awesome privilege to serve you, to fight for you, and to represent you in our nation's Capitol."

Walsh's office said Thursday that Walsh has brought roughly $1 billion for economic development and other activities to improve quality of life in western and central New York.

Walsh had represented much of Cayuga County for most of his career in Washington, though in recent years his district was limited to the northern part of the county after lines changed in 2002.

He barely survived a challenge in the 2006 campaign from Democratic candidate Dan Maffei, who has announced plans to run again this year.

Did anyone notice that they never mentioned how much Western and Central NY paid in over the twenty years that Mr. Walsh has been in office? "
