Skaneateles senior Sarah Trust reaches for a loose ball as teammates Alexis Jones, far left, and Staci Dudden watch during a game against Tully at Skaneateles Tuesday night.
The senior notched a career-high six points as the Skaneateles girls basketball team defeated Tully 40-13 on Tuesday at home.
Brittany LaVaute led the Lakers with 11 points and Alexis Jones had eight points and five steals. Jones' steals were key as the Lakers were able to capitalize each time with a bucket.
Caryn Crary had eight steals and eight rebounds and Staci Dudden played her typical all-around game, with seven points, four assists and three steals.
The Lakers were able to out-score Tully 18-2 in the third quarter after coming into the half up 15-5.
“Defensively we just didn't give Tully any shots.” Lakers coach Bob Braunitzer said. “We pressured their guards and made them take shots further out that normally they wouldn't take.”
Skaneateles (10-6 overall, 3-4 in league) has a tough road ahead, beginning with a trip to Bishop Ludden Thursday. The second-place Lakers follow that with games against Solvay, Fulton and Cazenovia.
“If we pick up our intensity, we will play a lot tougher.” Braunitzer said.
