The Springport Fire District will receive $57,532 through the Department of Homeland Security's assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The program provides resources to firefighters and first responders for response equipment, vehicles, training and services.
Since 2004, the program has awarded $2.2 billion in grant money to emergency organizations. The Springport district, which also received a grant in 2002, will use the money to purchase 20 sets of updated fire gear.
