Caleb Green finished first in the 96-pound weight class for Port Byron at the Ciaburry/Van Gordon Tournament as the Panthers wrestling team finished in sixth place out of 15 teams.
Zac Green (160) also took first place for the Panthers. Taking fourth for the Panthers was Tyler Wellington (103), Mike Borst (119) and Zac Abulencia (125).
“It was the best team effort I've seen since I started to coach.” Panthers coach Tom Green said.
Port Byron (3-11) travels to Lafayette Wednesday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Weedsport 42, Fabius Pompey 39
Kaitlin Hammersley led the Weedsport girls basketball team with 19 points.
By now, the Warriors must be used to tight contests - it was their third three-point win of the week. The win also gives Weedsport sole possession of first place in the league.
Allison Beardsley pitched in with eight and Markie Kreplin contributed seven points also.
“This was a big team win for us.” Warriors coach Chris Vargason said.
Weedsport (10-4 overall, 8-2 in league) hosts Bishop Grimes Thursday.
HOCKEY
Skaneateles 4, Corcoran 1
Keith Buehler led the Lakers with two goals Friday.
Matt Wood and Tory Cole scored the other goals. Wood had two assists and Cole had one. Kyle Christine and Patrick Emmer also picked up assists. Alex Richichi had 20 saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Tully 3, Port Byron 0
Ashley Leja led the Panthers with one ace, one kill and a team-high four digs in their 25-18, 25-19 and 25-17 loss on Friday.
Courtney Christinia had one ace and one kill. Ryann Mirabitio had two aces and Brittany Bigness had two aces and led the team with nine assists.
Kara Pitcher finished with a team-high four digs and a team-high two blocks.
Brooke Hamm led the Panthers with three assists, one kill and one dig and Britt Timms had two digs.
Port Byron (8-6, 6-2 league) travels to LaFayette Tuesday.
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Moravia
Cornell Age Group
Jen Cornwell kept her undefeated record and chance to defend her Section IV championship in the shot put by taking first place (32-2.5).
Moravia competes Friday at Cornell.
