Perhaps the Cayuga Indian Nation can reopen the bingo hall -- bigger and better, and closer to Auburn.
Barack Obama's speeches are some of the best in politics of the last 40-plus years. He may not have as much experience, for better or worse, but he has the potential to become the "Great Uniter" this country needs at home and abroad.

The only racist who's running for president is Barack Obama, who refuses to admit that he was a Muslim.

Quill is not going to vote to cut the staffing of the fire department as long as he's mayor. His brothers would nail him to the hook and ladder.

On that robbery with the cab driver and the kid: Why isn't anyone questioning what a 14-year-old is doing taking a cab at 2 a.m.?

Did you put in that married couple from way out of town in your marriages Sunday just to pad the stats so you could get some married people in your marriages, or are kids having kids?

" I just heard some clips of Goldberg on the Daily Show. What a buffoon. Linking organic food and liberals to fascism is just so bizarre.

I think he and Coulter should get married, but not be allowed to have kids. They'd be happy together, and maybe if they were having lots of sex they wouldn't have the energy to write the rubbish they do.

What do you think Karl?

" Chris van Coulter, I see you're twisting things again. Please point to me where Michael Moore has said that the US was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. He never said that and I challenge you to come up with your source for this "Faux News" style accusation.

As is typical, you never get it quite right. "

AJ wrote on Jan 17, 2008 12:00 PM:

" Isn't that a hoot Karl? I mean CVN reads both Coulter AND Goldberg! That is funny.

DD, if you spent any time at all educating yourself about the middle east, you'd know the we are being massively lied to and very little of the reality gets in the news.

And if we want to put a stop to "terrorism", the best thing to do is stop meddling in their affairs and start seriously working on plans for real energy independence. You know, like the Carter energy program that Reagan gutted. If it hadn't been, we would by now be enjoying much more world stability and safety. Unfortunately the oil companies don't like that idea since it threatens their existence and their hold on power.

And then of course we have the arms merchancts like NBC (GE) who just adore conflict since they profit enormously.

But you know all this right DD?

" Oh Karl, all those praises coming from a guy who believes what Michael Moore says and thinks that the US government perpetrated 9/11...I wish I could move to fantasy land, life would be much easier. Radical Islam is non-existent in Karl's land of cute bunnies and group hugs. I guess trying to catch the bad guys is "unconstitutional" and not giving non-citizens protection under habeus corpus is a crime as well... "

" MzHavisham, I appreciate your note.

On the ad hominem, while I agree that I am guilty of this on occasion, it is usually just a matter of throwing it back in the faces of those who are the most egregious users of such, who never can offer any facts to back up what they say and have to resort to it all the time. They cannot discern fact from Faux News Fantasy and have nothing else to go on. It's a pity really.

Honestly though, I do try to keep it in check.

Thanks for reading.

Chris Van Coulter reads Jonah Goldberg!!!
OK, all together now--LOFL!!! HA HA HA!
Chris--what--did you pick up a copy of "Liberal Fascism" in the bargain bin at Borders along with Ann's latest non-seller?
Just so you all know, Mr Goldberg is a radical, demented Conservative who predicted in 2005 that "Iraq won't have a civil war, that it will have a viable constitution, and that a majority of Iraqis and Americans will, in two years time, agree that the war was worth it."--NOT!
He has also compared giving out free food to Fascism, as in public assistance programs.
He imagines Liberals as "fascists" while penning a book cheering on Bush's unchecked increases of executive power, its advocacy of torture and its insubordination of both domestic and international law.
Hmmm...FASCIST MUCH???
For anyone interested, Jonah Goldberg is roundly accused of being perhaps the stupidest, nonsensical Conservative out there, running a close second behind only possibly O'Reilly and Coulter herself.
Chris...tsk, tsk,..you REALLY do paint yourself with the stooooopid brush here...Liberals are Fascists? OK, Chris, just roll another FAT one and inhale slowly.... "

One thing for certain is that ALL politicians are crooked, and will never be able to follow their agenda. As long as there are to parties, nothing will get done. As far as our service people in the Middle East, there is a truth that is not able to be dispelled---There are terrorists, they hate Americans, and our allies, they are savages, and if we aren't posing a threat to their way of life, they pose one to ours. There is no way for you to dispute any of the above statements AJ--or Karl. "

chris van note wrote on Jan 17, 2008 9:13 AM:

" Dan I agree. Today's liberal left in America and Europe is just a softer sort of fascism. Since many worship the Goracle, I'll use him as an example:
Al Gore says: ‘The time for argument is over, the time for discussion is over,’ with regard to Global Warming. I'll quote Jonah Goldberg “The only people who say we need to get beyond ideology, get beyond labels, are the people who want you to shut up, you to stop disagreeing and agree with them,” in reference to the left. The seemingly rabid quest to blame everyone but the true culprits (9/11 conspiricies, Islamic terrorism, etc...) is quite pathetic, cowardly and they seem live in a degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth war. What conservative Americans see as complete ignorance, the left tends to embrace "diplomacy", "multiculturalism" or "political correctness". The lame arguments about Bush and his cabal of "Nazis" and "criminals" and the cries of "police state" are astonishingly ignorant and disproves their point because in a true "police state" you wouldn't be critisizing the government and getting away with it. The liberaly hypocricy knows no bounds.
Karl and AJ don't realize that they are free and able to voice their opinions because of the exertions of better men and women than themselves. "

For our history lesson today, lets start looking up the records of 535 people and see how their lies and thefts and VOTES have stood up for the citizens of the USA! "

" I have to laugh whenever anyone accuses me of being "left" or "liberal" because among friends who consider themselves "left" or "liberal," they tend to think I am "right." The truth is, my views don't fit neatly into anybody's tidily labelled little pigeon hole. I consider each issue separately and form my opinions accordingly, relying on information, logic and my understanding of right and wrong. I don't have much use for labelling as a way of viewing the world. People tend to start throwing labels around when they don't want to try to debate the issue itself.

While it is true that Hilary has lumpy legs, that has nothing to do with her politics or her (lack of, imho) integrity -- it's just a cheap shot. I don't like the woman and it has nothing to do with her figure any more than it would be right to not vote for a male candidate because he has a fat gut.

Hillary's been steeped in corruption for a long, long time (all the way back to Arkansas). She has a team of handlers who tell her what's the best line to feed any given audience. She's gotten very good at it -- delivering her carefully crafted message and seeming sincere. Quite an actress. (Male politicians do the same). Some of the views she is currently espousing match my own, some don't, but I don't believe for a minute she really cares about any of them, except in so far as they propel her to more power.

Since Hillary seems to shift her position constantly (trying to match that elusive magic selling point for each audience), it's no wonder that people change their minds about her after watching her for a while. It just means the watcher is awake and paying attention, and is not such a huge ego that s/he can't admit to a former mistaken opinion.

We all know Karl is passionate and sometimes over the top, but it's good to see he is mature enough to be able to reassess and change gears when he sees something out of sync in his former views. A lot of blow-bellies make a lot of hot-winded hoots on this forum and wouldn't back down if faced by an All-Mighty God. Or a --

7-foot komodo dragon, Karl? How does he fit on your lap? ;-) I lost my beloved little black kitty 2 summers ago, but still have a soft spot in my heart for black kitties. Not that any of that has anything to do with anything.

I believe that the federal government is misleading in many ways, including pumping us all up to believe that Saddam had more to do with 9/11 than he really did. Your thoughts anyone? Now, lets just say that a democrat is elected to office. Do you really think that the terrorists are just going to leave us alone when we back our troops out? I mean, leave us alone just like on 9/11? I am going to make a prediction: If a democrat is elected, and chooses to pull out of the middle east before order is restored, the terrorist groups will once again, regroup, collect funds, will plan, and carry out terrorist attacks on US soil. anyone disagree? Now remember 9/11--what were you doing on that morning. I don't recall the US being the aggressor in any way at the time. Karl, I know you're going to blame the attack on the last US involvement in Iraq (Kuwait) but it wasn't the Iraqi people who carried out the attack, it was a group of terrorists that were allowed to exist in and around the government of Saddam. Defunding the troops? Have you read Naomi Wolf's book yet? "The End of America - Letter of Warning to A Patriot" is a well documented warning to all Americans that they had better start opening their eyes before it is too late. "

Cuz I would be disappointed in your response if you were.....anyhoo--I have no idea what you're referring to; perhaps you could enlighten us? Until some proof is offered I will continue to see the Bush administration as the most bumbling, impotent, and ineffectual-but-dangerous administration in the history of the United States. "

Farmer's Gal wrote on Jan 16, 2008 7:43 AM:

" "National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive" -- signed 9 May 2007. This directive provides for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president's directives in the event of a national emergency.

The directive loosely defines "catastrophic emergency" as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."

So, the President gets to decide something is a "catastrophic emergency", then he can give himself dictatorial power over any and all government AND PRIVATE BUSINESS activities until the emergency is declared over.

The directive also flies in the face of the former National Emergency Act, which included Congress in such decisions -- instead this directive creates a "National Continuity Coordinator" -- a position created without any authorization from Congress.

In fact, the directive makes no mention of Congress at all.

So much for checks and balances.

If you don't find this scary, you've really got your head in the sand. "

" AJ is right -- Bush signed that thingamadoo a year or two back giving himself the power to declare himself dictator, in effect. (I'll have to go and look up the exact name and references and all). Creating a "state of emergency" -- whether from whole cloth or from hyping up a small incident to fan the flames -- could be a tactic to let him declare himself temporarily permanently in power. Help me here, guys -- what was the name of that thing he signed? (Karl, AJ, one of you guys knows, I'll wager).

Thanks, ANGMOM3, well as can be expected. "

Karl, I worry that perhaps our esteemed King George may just decide to stay on a while longer, and a Gulf of Tonkin style incident might be just the right excuse, especially with the Republicans (not that the Dems are much better) absolutely having the worst prospects ever at the polls (even as rigged as they are).

All the mechanisms are now in place, just waiting for the right moment.

My spouse's dept HAD its own union BMWE, which still exists but is under Teamsters - to have more bargaining power is how it was worded. How truckers and RR can be the same union baffles me. "
