The Seneca County Sheriff's Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of Charles H. Seamans, the Weedsport man who was arrested by Cayuga County authorities Saturday after being accused of sex abuse.
According to Seneca County Sheriff's officials, the warrant is for a felony charge of first-degree criminal sex act and a misdemeanor charge of child endangerment. The pending charges are based on allegations of incidents said to have taken place in July 2007 at Camp Babcock Hovey, a Boy Scout camp in Ovid, according to John Cleere, an investigator with the Seneca County Sheriff's Office.
Seamans, 46, of 26 Evergreen Lane, Weedsport, was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts' Cayuga County council for nine years before he resigned on Jan 9. The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office has charged him with two counts of first-degree sex abuse and two counts of second-degree sex abuse on allegations that he abused two Boy Scouts under the age of 13.
He is currently being held in Cayuga County Jail on bail of $15,000 cash and $30,000 bond.
Cleere said that charges could be officially filed by the end of this week or early next week.
