Yes, dairy does have a place in a healthy diet

Monday, January 14, 2008 11:53 AM EST

As president of the New York State Dietetic Association, an organization advocating science-based nutrition research, I'd like to suggest to your readers to be cautious about following advice that requires eliminating whole categories of food from their diets.
It's important to note that the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine advocates a completely vegan diet (no animal products of any kind). PCRM's views have been denounced by nationally respected health organizations, including the American Medical Association.

In contrast, dairy's role in a healthy diet has long been established by the nutrition and science community, including the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the Surgeon General, and the National Institutes of Health.

The 2005 Dietary Guidelines recognize that people who eat dairy foods have better overall diets, consume more nutrients and have improved bone health.

When it comes to nutrition information, people should listen to health and nutritional professionals, not animal rights-activists.

" Gans' predecessor at the NYSDA went to work for the dairy industry. What a coincidence. "

" The consumption of dairy products has been linked to numerous human health problems, including allergies, osteoporosis, colic, diabetes, acne and cancer. It's astounding that a Dietetic Association is recommending that members of the public consume dairy. "Maybe the end provides a reason. It says, "NOTE: Keri Gans is available for interview, please contact, Brenda Beltram of the American Dairy Association ..."

" one would think that the president of the New York State Dietetic Association would be aware of all the facts prior to releasing such a statement.

from pcrm's own website -
"On February 10, 2004, the AMA issued the following statement:

"In the early 1990s, AMA spokespersons made critical comments pertaining to the dietary recommendations issued by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). These statements regarding diet are no longer current, as the AMA does not have policy specifically addressing vegetarian diets or the inclusion of milk in a diet. The AMA recognizes that a great deal of scientific evidence has been accumulated on nutritional issues over the past decade and supports continued research into the overall relationship between diet and health."

was that deliberate misinformation, keri m gans?

also, humans are the only mammals that consume the milk of another species and the only species that consumes milk after weaning.
the fact is the majority of the world's population is lactose intolerant and western civilization is imposing this disease generating diet on the rest of the world.
we can get all of our nutritional requirements straight from the source.
calcium can easily be obtained from leafy green vegetables for example. we can get plenty of protein without milk and at the same time avoid cholesterol, because we all know that plant foods contain no cholesterol.
i could go on and on.

do the research -

dairy products kept me sick for 24 years of my life and, without it, i am now healthier than ever.
milk is the perfect food... FOR CALVES! "

" I'm kind of suspicious why a dietician would be touting milk so highly, especially in this piece:

Maybe the end provides a reason. It says, "NOTE: Keri Gans is available for interview, please contact, Brenda Beltram of the American Dairy Association ..."
