McClary leads Union Springs over Dryden

Julius McClary led the Union Springs boys basketball team with 16 points and five rebounds in a 60-41 win against Dryden on Friday.
Mike Howell had 15 points and six rebounds and Nick Schooley added nine points, 12 assists and eight steals for the Wolves.

“We got a lot of transition points tonight.” Wolves coach Tim Darnell said. “We had a lot of easy baskets and moved the ball very well tonight. By doing that we forced a lot of open shots and it helped us.”

Union Springs (10-2) travels to Odessa-Montour Tuesday.

Moravia 41, Trumansburg 24

Kurt Berry led the Blue Devils with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Mackey and Jeremy Stewart each added five points.

Moravia (8-4) hosts Dryden Tuesday.

Fabius Pompey 51, Port Byron 50

Brad Anderson led the Panthers with 20 points. Frank Smart contributed with 16 points and 14 rebounds and Brian Locastro had nine points. With two seconds left and trailing by three, the Panthers missed a 3-pointer but converted a put-back.

Port Byron (5-7) travels to Tully Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Union Springs 35, Dryden 32

Monica Sacco led the Wolves with 14 points. Deven Gary finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Alexa Schooley had six points.

“We played well defensively tonight.” Wolves coach Jim Gunnip said. “We couldn't get into an offensive rhythm until the fourth quarter.”

The Wolves also had problems at the line, making just nine of 20 attempts.

Union Springs (6-6) hosts Odessa-Montour Tuesday.

Trumansburg 63, Moravia 45

Emilee Connor led the Blue Devils with 13 points. Claire Hunsinger added 11 points and Deanna Drake pitched in 10 points.

Moravia (4-5, 3-1 league) travels to Dryden Tuesday.

Candor 55, Southern Cayuga 43

Lianna May led the Chiefs with 13 points and Stephanie Morse chipped in with 11 points.

Southern Cayuga (4-7) hosts Waverly Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

Weedsport 3, Fabius Pompey 1

Heidi Robinson led the Warriors with four kills, eight aces, two blocks and three digs. Murphey Enos finished with nine kills, two aces and three digs. Chelsea Paquette had a team-high 10 kills and two blocks.

Weedsport (8-1, 6-1 league) hosts Port Byron Monday.

Port Byron 3, Faith Heritage 2

Ashley Leja led the Panthers with three aces, eight kills, two digs and one assist in a 16-25, 25-31, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-23 win. Courtney Christina helped out with one ace, three kills, one block and a dig.

Ryann Mirabito finished with three aces and one dig. Becca Manrow led the team with nine kills, five aces, one dig and one block.

Brittany Bigness helped out with four aces, one kill, four digs and a team high of seven assists. Kara Pitcher finished with two aces, one kill, one block, two digs and one assist. Britt Timms finished with six digs and Josceyln Emilio finished with one dig.

HOCKEY

Auburn 4, Fayetteville-Manlius 3

Matt Festa scored the game-winning goal in the third period with assists by Brad Murdoch and Brendan Lewis.

Lewis had two assists on the night.

Frank Murtari scored the first goal and was assisted by Lewis. Reggie Townsend added a goal and an assist by J.T. Foltz.

Sean Hogan had a goal and Brandyn Morgan had the assist. Tommy Trowell finished with 26 saves.

The Maroons were down 3-2 in the beginning of the third period but scored two goals to pick up the win.

Auburn (6-10-1, 3-4 league) travels to Ithaca Tuesday.

McQuaid 2, Skaneateles 1

Keith Buehler scored the Lakers lone goal and the assists came from Kaj Beck-Anderson and Tory Cole in the first round of the Skaneateles Hockey Tournament. The Lakers scored their goal in the first period and allowed McQuaid to score the winning goal in the third period.

Alex Richichi had 15 saves.

Skaneateles plays in the consolation game today against Williamsville South at 11 a.m.

FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

Utica Proctor 54, Auburn 33

Josh Sturm led the Maroons with five points. Trevor Doan contributed with four points and Mike Ferlenda helped out with two points. Nick Koziol led Auburn with four assists.

Auburn (5-6) hosts Nottingham Monday.
