HIT: To Welch Allyn, as the Skaneateles Falls-based medical technology company plans to add 175 new jobs as part of an expansion.
Welch Allyn will spend $30 million on a 120,000-square-foot addition to its State Street facility.
For decades, the company has played an important part in the local economy and this announcement shows economic progress can be made in central New York.
MISS: To the theft of a teddy bear from Auburn city hall. The oversized toy bear, dressed as Santa Claus, was taken around the holidays.
It is the second recent theft from city hall.
A brass pineapple from a handrail is also missing, it disappeared in November.
While the items may have more sentimental value than financial, it is disconcerting that someone believes they can take what does not belong to them in such a public setting.
HIT: To Wells College for the planned additions of men's and women's basketball to its expanding roster of athletic teams.
The college, which went co-educational two years ago, understands that sports can bring a campus together and bolster school spirit.
Basketball is a great choice because it doesn't cost a lot to field a team and needs a smaller amount of quality players to be successful.
MISS: To the town of Owasco and it continuing saga of incorrect billing.
Last year, the town had problems getting correct sewer and water bills out to its residents.
Now, it's property tax bills. Residents have been told to disregard the first set of bills they recently received.
The mistake was discovered by a resident who alerted town officials.
We wonder if the error would have ever been found if not for that person.
