One Cayuga County juvenile residential facility will close and another will see its bed count reduced in half under a plan announced Friday by the state Office of Children and Family Services.
The Auburn Residential Center is one of six facilities that will be closed a year from Friday under the plan. The Lansing Residential Center, also in Cayuga County, will see its bed count drop in half.

Auburn Residential Center is a non-secure facilities for girls 13 to 17 years old. It has 24 beds but just three children, along with 25 full-time positions.

The Lansing facility is a limited secure environment with 100 beds but 48 children. It has 32 full-time positions.

The state says it will try to help staff secure positions at other facilities. Families of children will be called with further details on the process.
