Semester packed with activities

As Billy Fuccillo always says “It's HUGE!” And that is exactly what the fall semester was at Cayuga Community College. This past semester was one for the memory books. Each month had its own big event that was surrounded by a few smaller activities to complement them.
As September rolled in and the new year started, the members of Students Activities Board (SAB) were psyched and ready to roll. They put on the annual student activities fair, where each club was represented by some older members and ready to give a little insight to freshman on what their club was all about.

Then SAB brought in a very talented artist, Susan Weinreich. She had many beautiful works, and she is living with a mental illness. Our big week had begun and there we all were ready to welcome the players from Recycled Percussion. Their show was absolutely amazing, and nearly 250 people attended this event. This was a new record for people showing up to an event. The show was a great success, and everybody loved it.

After that students were off to Baltimore to see the Yankees battle the Orioles in the final two games of the season. The Yanks won both of the games so it was a good trip if you were a New York fan. Not so much if you liked the Os.

October was a jam- packed month for our club - not only did we have other events and activities going on, we also had the annual leadership retreat in Lake Placid. For one weekend, Norman Lee, director of student services at CCC, took a group of students away on a retreat to teach them more about leadership.

It was a good learning experience as well as a nice weekend away from everything, nothing stressful and all about relaxing. What more could you ask for?

Some of our club members also volunteered to help out at the Wish Ball that was held for the Make a Wish Foundation at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona.

In October the anticipation was mounting as the big event approached - the Chinese Acrobats of the New Shanghi Circus.

There had to have been a little more than 300 people at the circus' performance, and each and every one of them were on the edge of their seats as the acrobats performances dazzled and amazed the audience.

With Thanksgiving break and all the work that we had to pour into the craft fair held in the beginning of December, November took a bit of a backseat to having too many events. But we still managed to have the massage therapy, which is a very necessary thing during that time of year. With the stress of finals and the end of the semester creeping up, a little down time is all a student needs.

December marked the end of the semester but also marked the biggest event of the year - the 34th annual craft fair. At the fair there are vendors of every kind and they are spread all over the campus. This event draws thousands of people to CCC each year, and it just seems to be gaining in popularity each and every time we have it.

That's a wrap up of CCC's fall semester, but be sure to keep and eye out for the upcoming events in the spring semester. Hope to see many of your smiling faces at these events that we put on for you.
