CINCINNATI -- Deonta Vaughn scored 20 of his 29 points in the first half Wednesday night, and Cincinnati's balanced attack helped it hold on for a 74-66 victory that ended Syracuse's six-game winning streak.

Vaughn scored in double figures for the sixth straight game, leading Cincinnati (7-8, 2-1 Big East) to its third victory in its last four games. Marvin Gentry added 12 points, and John Williamson scored 10.

Syracuse (12-4, 2-1) couldn't take advantage of a defense that has been highly inconsistent.

The Orange came into the game averaging 85.9 points, best in the league, but failed to build on a fast start.

Freshman Donte Green had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore Paul Harris added 20 points for Syracuse.

The last two games between the teams ended up in one-point wins for Syracuse.

The Orange got off to a 14-5 lead this time, with Harris' layup completing an 8-0 run.

Cincinnati missed seven of its first eight shots from behind the 3-point arc.

Vaughn then rallied the Bearcats to a 35-23 halftime lead.

His driving layup gave Cincinnati its first lead at 19-18, and he scored 12 consecutive points for a 29-20 advantage.

The Bearcats closed the half with a 21-5 run.

Vaughn's jumper in the lane put the Bearcats ahead 51-35. Syracuse cut the lead to six points with 2:26 to go, but got no closer.
