AUBURN -- The scene at the end of the school day is ever ubiquitous.
Moments after the final bell rings, flocks of students hasten to the front door, eager to jump into cars and buses or walk home while, shortly afterwards, the school doors close tightly behind them, only to be opened again the next morning.
That is no longer the case in the Auburn Enlarged City School District.
Beginning on Jan. 14, libraries in four district schools will be open to the community from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, providing an opportunity for community members, parents, teachers and students to use the library facilities and computer resources.
Seward Elementary School will be open on Monday nights, West Middle School will be open Tuesday nights, Owasco Elementary School will be open Wednesday nights and Casey Park Elementary School will be open Thursday nights. The libraries will be open during the school year while school is in session; that is, the library will be closed if there is a snow day or during vacations.
A library media specialist and a teacher will be on staff each night at the sites.
