Two Cents

Monday, January 7, 2008 10:50 AM EST

On a recent trip to Pennsylvania, I heard about a town that tried to build a kayak park, only to have it labeled as infeasible by some "grant" advisory committee. Who'd have thunk it?
Congrats to the people that did a wonderful looking rehab on that gothic victorian a few doors down from Cayuga Museum same side on Washington. I have always admired that house and having rehabed two old vics ourselves, it's great to see there are others that appreciate Auburn's old architecture.

If you think Auburn is dirty, pick up trash when you walk by it instead of just walking by it. Be responsible!

Auburn could be nice again. It's up to the individuals that live there just as much as it is the city leaders!

Not everyone has a computer. Let's not leave out those individuals.

The Citizen will find out soon enough that not printing the Two Cents in the daily newspaper is a mistake. I used to buy the paper, only to read the Two Cents because it was always a nice, funny distraction from the usual horrific news of the day.

Two Cents will be updated online as new submissions are called or e-mailed. To contribute new Two Cents items, call 253-5311 ext. 292 or e-mail twocents@lee.net.

" Great changes on the site. I am still learning how to move about but it should not take long. "

" Oh, and now that we have a new site here maybe our comments can be posted a lot quicker? "

" I hate finding dog crap in my yard. This morning I found a fully packaged apple pie in my front yard. People throw out the wierdest crap. "

" I know there are a lot of litter bugs out there but you need to take the wind into consideration too. Sometimes on trash day the wind likes to take the trash and blow it all down the street. Especially on newspaper week when the people decide they don't need to strap their newspapers together. Makes for a nice mess on our street. But seriously, I always have to pick up other peoples trash that is either blown or thrown in front of my house. Not to mention, other peoples dog crap too. I don't even have a dog but somehow there are always big piles of poop out front. Go figure. "

" Perhaps the city should impose a $1.00 tax on all fast food take-out orders. Once a month, they can use this money to pay overtime to city crews to pick up all the trash these idiots throw out their windows. "

" Kudos to the Citizen on the new site layout. Very well done!!! "

nature lover wrote on Jan 7, 2008 6:17 PM:

" Candi WHO gets paid to pick up the trash on the street? It would just help if everyone just picked up at their own place of residence. And if the creeps that throw out their vehicles windows would just STOP IT. And honestly all the hubub on one lousy primary held in hillbilly land. Geez lets give it a couple months huh b4 we REALLY c who is standing out. "

" Let Hillary come and pick trash up since she made so many promises to help upstate, and has done nothing as of yet. "

DD wrote on Jan 7, 2008 5:35 PM:

" Did, sniff sniff, anyone, sniff sniff, catch Hillary's little speach---She will vow to carry on her quest to become president. I love it---pride once again getting in the way of the Dems taking the white house back. Let her and Barack the Islamy Salami canabalize each other. "

" Hey, very nice new look to the web site!! Seems to operate better, too. No 2nd windows popping open. Good job!! "

candi wrote on Jan 7, 2008 4:28 PM:

" If I was to pick up ALL the garbage laying around Auburn while I was walking, I would be spending more time acting like a garbage man than actually getting to where I need to be. There are people who get PAID to do those things, just like I get paid to do the job I am supposed to do! "

nature lover wrote on Jan 7, 2008 3:00 PM:

" I pick up ALL the trash on the ground and a little bit more on the neighbs lawn as I just cant stand all the trash laying around and its GROSS. Tell me why do people throw everything out of their car windows - gee george I dont live here mentality I guess. "

karl L wrote on Jan 7, 2008 2:59 PM:

" I have to say that it says a lot about a person who walks right by a visible, obvious piece of trash like a fast-food bag, and doesn't put it in a waste container in the parking lot, or take it from in front of their house and help to beautify their neighborhood. I CAN'T STAND litter, and am always cleaning up after others it seems. Another sure mark of Idiocy is the people who are walking down the road and see a garbage bin out in traffic,.....and just keep walking on by as if they haven't a clue in the world! Drag it off the road, Dummy!!! "

karl L wrote on Jan 7, 2008 2:56 PM:

" WOW! I feel like my house has been
Home Makeover-ed"! Hmmm...not sure what I think yet. God, I hate having to learn to renegotiate a new site! "

suzee wrote on Jan 7, 2008 2:38 PM:

" What a cop out. Yes you are only one person but maybe someone will see YOU pick something up and that in turn will get them to do it. If something is in your yard you don't pick it up? Not a very good excuse! "

steve w wrote on Jan 7, 2008 1:01 PM:

" Seriously? You want me to pick up garbage that I don't know where it has been or what has happened to it? Actually, I am only one person, I cannot pick up Auburn myself. LOL. "
