BUFFALO -- It's the second week of January and the record-breaking temperatures in upstate New York are on the positive side of zero for a change.
The temperature hit 56 degrees in Buffalo Monday morning, breaking the old record for Jan. 7 -- 54 -- set in 1935, according to the National Weather Service.
Record highs for January could fall across upstate New York early this week, thanks to a warm front that's expected to push temperatures into the lower 60s from Buffalo to Syracuse.
The National Weather Service predicts a high of 60 on Monday for Auburn, with highs Tuesday expected in the lower 60s. The record high for Jan. 7 is 59 and for Jan. 8 is 54, according to the NWS.
The balmy conditions arrive less than a week after single-digit temperatures and subzero wind chills were recorded across the region.
Things will start cooling off by Wednesday, with temperatures falling back into the 30s and 40s by the weekend.
