For most of us hunger is not an issue. We are complacent in knowing that our families, our children will never go hungry. When we do think about hunger, we usually think of starvation in far-away countries. Yet hunger often lurks in our own communities.
It is not only the elderly and the unemployed who do not have enough money for food. Many people who work full time in low level and minimum wage jobs still do not have enough money to maintain a basic standard of living. This includes buying food, paying for health care, housing, clothing and other necessities.
Not only do these members of our community need our help, but also the children as well. It is common knowledge that proper nutrition is essential for their minds and bodies.
In Seneca County, the House of Concern, located in Seneca Falls, runs a food pantry. Donated clothing and household items are sold by staff and volunteers. Monies received from these sales are used to run the facility and purchase food for those in need.
Unfortunately today the House of Concern finds itself in a financial dilemma. There is simply not enough money to continue to meet operating expenses and to run the food pantry.
They desperately need your help in their mission to eliminate hunger in our community. To find out how you can help, please call the House of Concern at 568-2433.
