Junior needs daily dose of exercise
Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.
This week, we spotlight Junior from the Finger Lakes SPCA.
Q. Who is your best friend?
A. Anyone who will come around and take me for a walk can be my best friend.
Q. Do you get along with other animals?
A. Oh yes. Where I lived before I had my own cat.
Q. Who do you prefer - adults or children?
A. I really like everyone. However, I wish people would learn to respect a dog's (and cat's) personal space and give us a chance to size them up before they try to make friends.
Q. How often do you like to be groomed?
A. I really need to have a vigorous brushing every day to keep me feeling and looking good. Bathing and other stuff can be done on an as needed basis.
Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?
A. Look for a ball and go play.
Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?
A. Yes. It's a new year. If you have not already done so, please resolve to have your pets spayed or neutered this year. They will become better companions and many undesirable behaviors will be lessened or eliminated.
Junior
Breed: Blue Heeler Mix
Age: Young adult male
Junior came to the shelter shortly before Christmas as an owner surrender. We got him tucked safely into his kennel where he could avoid the holiday hoopla and spend a few quiet days before the work of finding him a new home began. It's now time.
Junior will be two years in March - barely out of puppy-hood. He's holding on to the puppy playfulness and is very friendly and affectionate. We were told that Junior has previously lived with and gotten along with cats. He enjoys fetch and loves running after his favorite toy - a ball. He's not too hard to please - with one exception. He really does need to be walked and exercised regularly so he is looking for a guardian (or a family of guardians) who will commit to long walks and games of fetch on a daily basis. Since Junior has not had any training, we are also recommending basic obedience training for him and his new family.
Junior is up to date on his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and has been flea and worm treated. He is not yet neutered but, as with all animals adopted from shelters in New York, he must be within 30 days of leaving the shelter if not done prior to adoption. Junior is available for adoption now.
The adoption donation for Junior is currently $156, which includes up to date vaccinations, testing and treatments, mandatory microchipping, licensing and a refundable $50 neuter deposit.
If Junior is adopted after being altered, the adoption donation is $138.
