Ryan Appleby set pace in tourney

Mike Ryan rolled a 744 series while his partner Ben Appleby added a 685 as the pair totaled 1,429 to capture a division in the Auburn 700 Club Doubles Tournament Sunday at Starlite Lanes.

Ryan and Appleby, bowling in the 420 average-and-over division, shared the top prize of $120. Steve Walawender (716) and Dave Dec (690) placed second (1,406) to cash $80, Bob Clarke (685) and Dan Pilat (657) were third (1,342) to win $60, while Rick Lambrecht (704) and Jeff Matty (611) finished fourth (1,315) to take home $40.

In the 419-and-under division, Dick Bobbett (695) and Mike Wilczek (621) finished first (1,316) to win $120. John Walters (652) and Don Johnson (610) placed second (1,262) to take home $80. Ed Desio (644) and Gus Garnsey (614) were third (1,258) to cash $60, while Mike Capone (715) and D.J. Wright (534) came in fourth (1,249) to win $40.

Walawender (275), Derek Magno (269) and Tim Waters (263) had the high games in the event that featured 27 teams. The 700 Club Singles Tournament will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at Falcon Lanes.
