Jordan-Elbridge senior Joe Poppe helped guide the Solvay (8-7) ice hockey team into sole possession of second place in Division II West as the Bearcats defeated Skaneateles 3-1 on Wednesday. Solvay inched it's way closer to the first-place Lakers with the win.
Poppe, who is playing independently for Solvay, racked up 32 saves as the Bearcats' goalie.
Solvay jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period and stretched their win streak to three games.
Tory Cole scored the Lakers lone goal on a combined pass from Keith Buehler and Lex Johnson in the third period, after Solvay had scored all of it's goals.
Neal Purcell and Tim Burgess of the Bearcats each scored and both players finished with two assists. Mike Smith scored the other goal to seal the win.
Lakers goalie Alex Richichi had 16 saves.
