Resident's cookie recipe published
Auburn resident Linda Jones' recipe for pineapple cookies was chosen among thousands of entries to be published in the “2008
Wal-Mart Family Cookbook.” Her recipe and a photo of the dish are displayed on page 64 in the book.
Wal-Mart invited its 1.3 million associates nationwide to share their favorite recipes by entering this recipe contest. The book includes winning recipe entries in four categories: appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts.
The book is currently available at the chain for $4.96.
Chicken, biscuit dinner to be held
A chicken and biscuit dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the First Baptist Church of Jordan, 20 Clinton St., Jordan. Cost for adults is $7, children are $4 and the third child is free.
Skaneateles stores ‘Check Out Hunger'
The annual “Check Out Hunger” campaign, a coupon-scanning fundraiser for the Food Bank of Central New York, will be available in P&C Foods, Wegmans, TOPS, Bruegger's, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms stores beginning Jan. 20. Participating stores will offer customers donation coupons of $2, $3, and $5, which can be scanned and added to a shopper's check-out total; the tax-deductible donation will be noted on the shopper's receipt. All funds raised will benefit the Food Bank of Central New York, which serves as the primary food supplier for food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters across 11 counties of central and northern New York. Participating stores can be found in 10 of the Food Bank's 11 counties: Cayuga, Cortland, Chenango, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego and St. Lawrence.
Participating stores will offer the coupons on the following dates: P&C (Jan. 20 to Feb. 2), Wegmans (Jan. 20 to Feb. 23), TOPS (Jan. 20 to Feb. 9), Bruegger's (Jan. 20 to Feb. 23) and Wilson Farms and Sugarcreek stores (Jan. 20 to Feb. 23).
Church offers free soup, clothing
SS. Peter and John Church offers a free soup kitchen from noon to 1 p.m. and a free clothes closet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday. Both are located at the church, 169 Genesee St., Auburn.

The Skaneateles Ecumenical Food Pantry has recently gone through some administrative changes. New officers, phone number and contact information is as follows:
The resignation of Loretta Marx, chairman of the program since its inception in the late 1990s, became effective on Dec. 31, 2007. The new co-chairmen are Judy Gelston and Debbie Fratter, while the new treasurer is Mary Dobrovosky. The pantry's mailing address is: PO Box 901, Skaneateles, NY 13152, while Skaneateles dispatch (685-3488) will now handle phone inquiries.
The pantry continues to be open from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and 7 to 8 p.m. Thursdays. It is located at 819 W. Genesee St. Road, Skaneateles.
