Police say men had stolen tires
Two Pennsylvania men were arrested early Monday morning after police say they possessed a truck load of stolen tires.

At approximately 3:45 a.m., New York State Police in Auburn received a call for a suspicious-looking, white box truck parked by BJ's Wholesale Club and Stafford Auto Group, both on Grant Avenue in Auburn, according to the state police. A trooper was dispatched to the area and came upon a truck that matched the description, as well as two men allegedly unloading used tires from the truck, state police officials said.

The police recovered dozens of used tires, according to officials.

Michael G. MacDermott, 48, of 555 North Main Street, Edwardsville, and Richard K. Furman Jr. 39, of Liberty Park, Hallstead, were both arrested at the scene, according to police. They were each charged with the felony of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and the misdemeanor of petit larceny, state police officials said.

They were both arraigned in the Town of Sennett Court and remanded to Cayuga County Jail on $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond.

Poultry received $1.29 on average for each dozen eggs sold in December, an increase for 4 cents from November and 57 cents higher than December 2006. The average price for a bushel of grain corn increased 21 cents from November to $3.68, which was 70 cents more than December 2006.

Hay averaged $116 per ton, $10 less than last year and down $1 from November 2007 prices. Potatoes decreased to $12 per hundredweight, 30 cents less than the November average and 10 cents more than December 2006.

Apples were up 5 cents per pound from a 34-cent average in December 2006.
