The worst cold wave in years continues today with temperatures dipping to new lows this morning.

Dec. 31, 1937

The Cayuga County Welfare Department brought Christmas cheer in various ways to 300 children, during the season now ending. Students at Wells College, Aurora made liberal donations of cash for the purchase of games, toys and some clothing. Donations came from various merchants and from The Home on Grant Avenue.

Dec. 31, 1997

Snow, low temperatures, gusting winds and unpredictable road conditions made venturing outside a hazardous trip today. Sheriff's departments in Seneca and Cayuga counties declared states of emergency in the wake of winter's first major storm that dumped up to two feet of snow on the area.

Dec. 31, 2002

Union Springs girls basketball head coach Jim Gunnip knew coming into Monday night's Cayuga County Basketball Tournament championship against Southern Cayuga that avenging last year's loss to the Chiefs, as well as witnessing the rivalry between the two squads that has developed over the past 30 years, could make for quite an interesting night.
