The Auburn Planning and Economic Development Office may be fully staffed in January, but there’s been a shuffle of candidates.
Marlene Bryent accepted the vacant economic planner position, the second person to accept the job this month.
Binghamton employee John Chanecka agreed to take the job last week, but later declined it a few days afterward.
Bryent’s first day is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2008, City Manager Mark Palesh said. Palesh announced Bryent’s acceptance the day after Chanecka changed his mind.
Bryent received her undergraduate degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master’s degree from Harvard University and she is working on earning her doctorate from Brown University, Palesh said.
Cynthia Aikman resigned as economic development program manager in September when city officials announced her duties would change and she was slated to become the community manager. Crystal Purcell, formerly from U.S. Rep. Michael Arcuri’s office, has since taken the community development manager position.
With Bryent’s arrival, the office now has all five professional staff and two support staff member positions filled.
The office lost a senior planner position in the 2007-08 budget. The city planning office has a nearly $656,000 budget.
