The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Weedsport man who reportedly disappeared Dec. 23.
According to sheriff's officials, family members of James T. George reported to the Village of Weedsport Police Department that the 39-year-old man was missing. George, of 2661 Lincoln St., left his residence on foot in a despondent state of mind at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's officials said. He was wearing a black fleece jacket, blue jeans or sweat pants and hiking boots at the time, according to the sheriff's office.
George has family in Clayton, N.Y., and he is known to walk on trails in the woods for long distances, according to the sheriff's office. Personnel from various rescue and law enforcement agencies will begin a ground search with headquarters at the Weedsport Fire Department.
The sheriff's office asks anyone who has seen George or who knows anything about his whereabouts to call 253-1222.
